I began the process for making this painting by first making a cast acrylic monotype. I am fortunate to have learned this process from one of the Bay Area’s most innovative printmakers and the person who developed this revolutionary new process, Joseph Zirker. I based this painting on that monotype. In this painting, I love her uneven eyes, her bright yet sad expression. She is warm yet her hair is cold. She is beautiful in her imperfection.

This painting is one of many that I've made recently of people. They are all from memory. I'm not sure where they are coming from or where they are going. I just know that the process is very enjoyable so I'm going to stick with it for awhile.

I am thrilled and honored to say that I have been selected to participate in the sixth edition of the Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy. It will take place December 1-9, 2007 in the historical Fortezza da Basso. In 2001 The United Nations recognized the Florence Biennale as an official partner in the program "Dialogue Among Nations". The artists of the Biennale, despite their differences of language and faith, found a common language in art to communicate their cultural values, illustrating Kofi Annan's statement: "Art opens new doors for learning, understanding, and peace among people and nations".
