"Pearl Necklace"
36" x 24"
Florence Biennale selection
acrylic on canvas
This is the third of three paintings that I will be showing
at the Florence Biennale in just a couple of weeks. This
painting represents youth. The painting I showed last
month "Content" represented old age, and the prior
painting I showed "Circle of Life" represented spirit and
whatever comes next. I chose these three paintings
because I feel like they hold together thematicaly
and visually.
Thank you for reading and as always, for your
ongoing support.
Ciao. I look forward to seeing you when I return.

Florence Biennale
Florence, Italy
I am thrilled and honored to say that I have been selected
to participate in the sixth edition of the Florence Biennale
in Florence, Italy. It will take place December 1-9, 2007 in
the historical Fortezza da Basso. In 2001 The United Nations
recognized the Florence Biennale as an official partner in the
program "Dialogue Among Nations". The artists of the
Biennale, despite their differences of language and faith,
found a common language in art to communicate their
cultural values, illustrating Kofi Annan's statement: "Art
opens new doors for learning, understanding, and peace
among people and nations".

I'm not trying to make paintings look like photos. I want to make paintings using photos as a reference, the way painters did when photography was first invented.
