Small World 2
"Small World 2" 24" x 36" mixed media

Hi there, friends!

I hope you all had an excellent Thanksgiving. Ours was spent with family up in El Dorado Hills. I enjoyed every minute, and it went by way too fast.

Recently, one of my collectors had expressed a slight touch of remorse over not having purchased a painting that had sold. We talked about the possibility of making another one. Although it's impossible to make the same exact painting, I thought I could come close. As we were discussing possibilities she had asked whether I could add some blue and purple to the cat that was originally black, and could I put some irises in the vase in place of the day lillies.

The one thing that had to be completely different from the original painting is the fabric that was under the table. I no longer had any of it. My solution was to mimic the fabric by painting it. The result of the commissioned painting is above, and the original painting is below.

Thank you to both collectors. I hope you each feel like you have the "better" painting.

Gratefully, and in appreciation for all of your support.

Mary

An art exercise NEW!!
(for all you artists out there, and you're all artists, BTW)

Pearl&Me

Make a painting of anything using just black and white paint. It can be any kind of paint — oil, acrylic, watercolor. It can also be painted on any material — a piece of paper, a piece of wood, canvas, fabric, etc. It's your choice!

Be brave, you can do this!

Feel free to paint a mug if this helps narrow down the subject matter. Set it by a window. It will help you to see the highlight side and the shadow side.

I used carbon black and titantium white (acrylic paint) on a piece of canvas.

Now it's your turn. When you're finished please send me a jpg and we'll publish it here next month. :-) mm
