"Content"
30" x 40"
Florence Biennale selection
acrylic on canvas

I will be showcasing over the next two months the three paintings that will be traveling with me to the Florence Biennale in December. This painting title "Content" is the second of three. This painting is based on an amazing photograph by Tim Schroeder. I saw the photograph in the book titled "24 Hours" produced by David Knght. After receiving permission from Tim to make a painting based on his photograph, I since learned that both of these women had passed on. A month later I learned that the home where they were living is also no longer there. I'm glad I was able to capture a moment in their lives on canvas, and hopefully I honored these two women who to me look completely content.

Florence Biennale
Florence, Italy

I am thrilled and honored to say that I have been selected to participate in the sixth edition of the Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy. It will take place December 1-9, 2007 in the historical Fortezza da Basso. In 2001 The United Nations recognized the Florence Biennale as an official partner in the program "Dialogue Among Nations". The artists of the Biennale, despite their differences of language and faith, found a common language in art to communicate their cultural values, illustrating Kofi Annan's statement: "Art opens new doors for learning, understanding, and peace among people and nations".

My painting "Circle of Life" will be shown in the catalog. I am very happy about this choice as it is a painting I made in honor of my Mom after her passing.

Student Work

My students continue to amaze me. This particular painting is from a lesson in which each student copied one of the Masters' paintings. The purpose is to learn something about the method in which the master painted. Linda chose one of Vincent van Gogh's self portraits. Very nice job.
